Monty in Public
Monty put in an appearance at the Mall of Cyprus on Friday. The Mall (perhaps that should be Mullet hall?) attracts a strange breed of visitor. None stranger than the Mont; usually found stroking a 50 incher in Public and drooling over its full 1080p splendour. Ah, Public… the shop to end all shops. They missed a trick by not adding a coffee joint but they otherwise hit the mark.
And when leaving this shrine to all things wonderful, Mont followed the caffeine trail and ended up in Starbucks, mit espresso uber gut, as they probably don’t say in Germany. Avoiding the temptation of Bluetooth pairing and favouring the less technical - good old eavesdrop, Mont encountered a young attractive couple (most likely of British persuasion) mourning the loss of the late Humphrey Littleton. Good old Humph, presenter of the infamous “I’m sorry I Haven’t a Clue” was one of radio’s finest. A lump rose in the Mont throat at the loss of such a fine exponent of that cornerstone of English comedy – the double entendre. Who could honestly suppress a chuckle at such gems as the fictitious American Casino whose sign out front was meant to have read:
“Liquor in front, Poker in the Rear.” ?
Or the tale of the bishop who doubled attendance at Sunday prayers when he began polishing his organ.
Alas, our young couple seemed to stir at the presence of a beaming Monty and quickly gathered their Ikea bags before making for the door. Still, a chance to sit in idle isolation doesn’t often present itself in the public sphere. Mont went back to type and flicked through the glossy pages of Omikron (Cyprus’ shameless attempt at reproducing Hello) looking for a glimpse of the it-girl who haunts his darkest thoughts. Fair lady ****** (even mentioning her name makes the Mont flustered) there’s nowt better than a good looking lass who longs to be pictured in public.
