The DSi, Aaaii!
The new DS, the 3rd generation, has just been released. Nintendo didn't officially announce what the DS stands for. Some claim it stands for Dual Screen while others Developers' System. I couldn't care less.
First there was the DS, then came the DS lite and now DSi is out. I believe the "i" stands for Ali G's favourite exclamation: Aaiii, or simply Ai that defines "coolness" status. Da DSi is wicked. Me luv dis! Respect!
I currently own all 3 and I’m glad that the new features, dimensions and software of the DSi proved to be a worthy purchase.
I found in the package 500 Nintendo Points and when i linked my DSi with my Nintendo account, i received 1000 DSi Ware Points. I used the points to buy Paper Plane for 200 points, Pyoro for 200 points and Art Style: Aquite for 500 points. You can read more about them and the rest of the DSi Ware games here:
It's a nice start for the DSi Ware Store even if it's partially through recycling of old mini-games or ideas. The DSi is a far better improvement over its predecessor than DS lite was over DS due to the Web Browser, the Photo Editor mode, the Voice Recording and Editing mode and the DSi Ware Shop.
Here are all the DSi features, changes & improvements that i've noticed:
It’s 4mm thinner, 4 mm longer and 1 mm wider than the DS lite.
2 cameras.
Better microphone.
SD card (over 2G) slot.
Slightly bigger screens.
Slightly longer stylus.
It’s Fingerprint-marks proof.
Great Photo Editor mode.
Great Voice Recording and Editing mode.
Web Browser.
Dsi Ware Store – Exclusive and unique games.
Internal memory big enough to store around 60 DSi Ware games or 400 photos or 18 10-seconds voice recordings.
New “dashboard” interface. A combination of the XMB and Wii Chanels.
It retains all features and settings of the DS lite.
It only loses the Game Boy Advance games slot.
Here are some comparable photos of the 3 generations of the DS:
I prefer the DS lite shiny black ceramic looks.

One can see the external camera on the DSi.

Nintendo keeps the back simple and flat.

The original DS is almost as thick as his 2 brothers combined.

DS and DS lite had GB Advance slots.

The stylus of the original DS was too short and thin for adults. Nintendo addressed the problem with the DS lite and DSi - Aaaii.

The DS lite and DSi are backlit and have 5 light intensity settings. DSi screens are slightly bigger, something that will be appreciated in games like GTA, i believe.

As far as my imagination is concerned, the wait for DS air has begun. It's gonna be 6mm thick!!!

Nice post dude, especially liked the photos.
How much did you have to hand over to Mr Satoru Iwata for the privilage and where did you get it from in the end? Do you think there is enough there to warrant me getting a DSi concidering I already own a DS Lite?
Re: The DSi, Aaaii!
Gotta love this article! Photos, attention to detail, informed opinion... The last handheld I bought was years ago but after reading this the credit card might just have to come out.

I'm glad you did.
A friend of mine bought it from the UK and brought it to me. I gave him 200 Euros and the excitement of owning a new gaming machine made me tell him "keep the change". I chose to get it from the UK, to ensure that i would get the 500 Nintendo Points and the 1000 DSi Ware Points. I know a shop in Paphos that sells both colours for 199 Euros each and while the package has the Nortec sticker on it, it does contain the Nintendo Points. I'm not sure if all Nortec packages of other shops also contain the points card. Usually when Nortec opens the packages in order to put inside instructions in Greek, they remove the Nintendo Club Points card.
I strongly believe that all the features that i mentioned above, make it a worthy purchase. Also the fact that it's not gonna be your 3rd, but your 2nd DS, makes it even more worthwhile because now the local Multiplayer comes to life through the DS capabilities of sharing and playing MP modes on 2 DSs while using 1 game. It's like for so long you only had one PS3 pad and couldn't play any MP so you went and bought a 2nd pad, only that for the DSi case, it's an extra bonus and incentive. DSi Ware games will get better and more as time passes by.

Re: The DSi, Aaaii!
Still not sure. My girlfriend has the original fat ds (pink ofcourse) so we dont really need the DSi for multiplayer gaming. I think once the store gets some quality titles I might do the dirty and get me one.
