Stylised Violence is a Cheap Shot

Unnecessary. Completely Unnecessary. Sorry to those of you who despise all forms of censorship, but the airport terrorist scene in Modern Warfare 2 (just after Cliffhanger) left Monty unimpressed.

Slow-mo styled carnage, slaying none but the innocent can only give the industry a bad name. Yes I shot some screaming civilians but only out of boredom with a level that added little to the game.
I will probably be ridiculed for saying it but I just hate stuff like this. Much is made of the danger in allowing people to role play violence in games and I don’t normally get it. Most killings in an fps seem somehow morally justified. There’s the simple fact that most targets are either:
a) a traitor or enemy
b) someone shooting at or trying to kill you
That normally allows a sane individual to sleep at night. If a parent sees his son playing with toy soldiers and making gun noises, they don’t think there’s a problem because they understand the logic of the reasons above. They don’t think their child is insane, just playing out lessons of right and wrong at their most extreme level.
However, most people would find it odd to see a child send in his action man, locked and loaded against a crowd of innocent women and children in his sisters doll’s house.
And that’s why Monty can be coloured a shade of deep disappointment at the inclusion of such vile, turgid nonsense in an otherwise splendid looking game.

Re: Stylised Violence is a Cheap Shot

Nice to see you back blogging MonyGeoffrey.

As to the issue you raise i will reply once i play the game. I did notice that the gaming press also regards this specific level as not fitting in with the rest of the campaign.

Re: Stylised Violence is a Cheap Shot

I used it for target practice, latency check up and hit-points detection evaluation.
