MadWorld
”And i find it kind of funny, i find it kind of sad”

MadWorld was no.34 in the UK’s sales charts in its first week of release. In the following week it disappeared from the top 40. From what i have read, the situation is not any better in the US either.
Unfortunately whenever a developer tries to do something bold and different the gamers’ response is “give us something we know and have seen before with a number preferably at the end of the game’s name”. MadWorld could not manage to find an audience even in the Wii’s massive installed base.
For PlatinumGames (developer) and Sega (publisher) this must be a big blow to another attempt to create a new IP with a distinct art style and gameplay. I don’t follow other forms of entertainment as much as i do video games so i don’t know if it’s common but it is really extraordinary how people avoid to venture out of their comfort zone. And sad.
“When people run in circles it’s a very, very
Mad world, mad world enlarging your world
Mad world”

Re: MadWorld
This was a bit of a test for all other developers out there thinking about how to tap the large Wii user base with non mainstream games (mainstream in the Wii dectionairy being the casual gamer). Mad World may not have broken into the upper regions of the charts. But as it was developed for the Wii, the risk that the developers took were a fraction of those who try to pimp a new I.P, or any game for that matter, on the 360 or PS3 and therefore the risk to reward ratio still remains very attractive due to the lower developement costs and huge install base.
The fact that is has bomded is quite sad for the small minority of Wii owners that want to use their console for something other than Wii Sports when the old folks and young relatives come round once a year.
The Wii is still in its infancy and sooner or later someone will come along, other than Nintendo, and find the right formula ... Rockstar anyone?
Re: MadWorld
According to an analyst, a million copies of a Wii game have to sold to make profit. I'm definately getting this soon although Wii occupies a small fraction of my gaming time. Also Wii has the lowest games attach rate of all 3 current consoles. If new I.Ps do not succeed on Wii then developers will be discouraged from developing on the Wii such great and high-scoring games and then we will be only left with the Mario, Zelda and Metroid franchises once every 2-3 years.
Re: MadWorld
its a shame that these hardcore games dont sell to well on the Wii. it needs to sell well to encourage game publishers to produce more titles on the wii geared towards the "hardcore" gamers. i havent played madworld yet but ill definately get it soon and see what the fuss is all about
