Advanced Wars of Stupidity
For the past couple of weeks i have been playing Advance Wars: Dark Conflict on the DS. Despite a few niggles, like the never ending dialogues, i have been enjoying the game. Until last night. I was playing a mission which did not seem to end. I had the upper hand but the enemy kept churning out units from its factories. I was slowly taking its cities and thus resources to limit this building of units but it was taking too long. My DS power light even started blinking red, as in "just finish the goddamn mission" (or maybe that the battery was about to die on me).
And then the final blow to my mental stability. One of my air fighers was attacked by anti-air cannons but managed to survive. Barely. I had to take it back to an airport for repairs. But its path was blocked. Two of its adjacent squares were being blocked by ground anti-air cannons while the other two by infantry units holding bazookas. The game does not allow diagonal movement of squares either. So my only option was to attack one of the infantry units. But that meant that in the next turn my unit would still be there and would be destroyed by the enemy anti-air units....
I just snapped. I switched the power off. How can a game be so illogical? How can ground troops block the path of air units? I mean i had noticed it before but it was the first time the stupidity of it really hit me. I just don't understand and it is simply poor game design.

I agree that it is a
I agree that it is a limitation however its just like any other rule in a game. Just take the fact that you cannot stack units into account prior to making your move.
I didnt even know that stacking was an option in turn based strategy games until I talked to you the other day. How is it displayed in Panzer Tactics?
Of course you can accept and
Of course you can accept and just get on with the game but it limits the strategy in a non logical manner. It allows your fighters/bombers to be trapped by very cheap infantry units which makes no sense at all.
Yeah most TBS games have this stacking. In Panzer Tactis the hexacon which contains more than one unit blinks and also once your icon/curson goes over that particular hexacon it tells you what other units are there and you can chose which one to move/use.
It is really simple, that is why it baffles me that Intelligent Systems has opted to not have this in AW.
Valid points, I just as I
Valid points, I just as I have never had that option available to me it has never bothered me. Can't miss what you never had and all that ...
I managed to get a good game going online on Saturday while I was cooking and I was caining the other guy. But then it was time to have our meal and I had to surrender the battle.
Still dont understand why I cant connect to some of your guys in Cyprus, its really starting to annoy me now.
