Red Ring

Monty was always brought up to believe that getting a red ring was not something one should aim for in life. Years of sage-like, puerile, peer based wisdom, explained that such an experience would be as painful as it was unwelcome. Alas, seven days ago, in 360 terms, the Mont was caught with his pants down (no memory card to enable playing his own profile on a friend’s machine) and the experience only confirmed his worst fears.

LittleBigHeaven

Has anybody fell in love before………………..with a game?!? Well I have a couple of times and it’s an indescribable feeling but it’s been a long time before. The sheer joy, ecstasy and tranquility one feels when in love is something everybody lingers and cherishes the most. Well lads, I’m happy to announce that I’m in love again (a note to my other half: with a game) and it feels as good as ever. I fell in love with LittleBigPlanet.

How can one not have memories of the Street Fighter series in the arcades. I was never any good at it of course and in any case I was more of the NBA Jam type of player.

But going to Piccadilly, especially during the anti-occupation demonstrations, was part of my teenage life. Street Fighter 2 was by far the most popular machine in that place. You could see people playing the “single player” campaign but also playing the Vs mode. Coin after coin. Challenger after challenger.

Sub-Standard Science

Given the revelations of certain recent military events in the Atlantic this week, Monty wept for the end of the enlightenment, the death of progress and its stark implications for Military-themed gaming in the future.  It seems that the top minds of our generation have unintentionally colluded in designing a frightening stalemate in the world of underwater warfare. A state of the art French Nuclear Submarine proved itself so good at avoiding enemy radar that a British Sub, travelling in the opposite direction, was unable to spot it coming. But just before Frenchie could  start opening the brandy and acting like the playground bully, their own radar screens failed to detect anything coming the other way either. The result was an almighty crash and at least 6 points on 2 driving licences one would assume.

Skate 2

Mardas's picture

Being someone that enjoyed and had already spent a lot of time with the original Skate and its unforgiving but rewarding controls, the thought that I would be picking up the sequel was always a safe bet. After reading and hearing great things about the game I managed to overcome a mini guilt trip about spending more money on yet another game and did the deed.
